Celebrating Pride During the Pandemic
Covid, and our response to the pandemic, has led to a number of Pride parades being cancelled - some for the second year in a row. With Pride month upon us, we’re exploring some of the ways you can celebrate and show your Pride without having to leave the house.
Catch up on WorkPride
WorkPride is the largest annual virtual pride conference celebrating being LGBTQ+ in the workplace. Held every Pride Month, it is an opportunity to come together virtually to celebrate being LGBTQ+ whilst exploring a number of pertinent topics via panels, social opportunities, and more. If you missed this year’s WorkPride, you can still access the panels via Facebook, and via myGwork - be sure to check it out!
Attend a Virtual Pride
Similar to the above, a number of Pride celebrations have gone virtual in light of the pandemic and the impact it has had on planning. Find out if your local pride is going virtual, or attend prides from across the globe - when you’re connecting via the internet, the sky's the limit on all the places and content you can access. The one success of the pandemic has been our ability to connect virtually to each other, and it’s vital to make the most use of this at a time when we often cannot access these spaces in person.
Give Your Social Profiles a Pride Touch
Rainbow banners, profile filters, and sticking some rainbow emojis in your profile go a long way to showing off your Pride. But, so does adding your pronouns to your profiles. Whether it’s in your bio itself, or using the pronouns features now included on instagram, linkedin, zoom, and more, sharing your pronouns goes a long way to help normalise the practice and include our trans and non-binary community. If you’re out, and feel comfortable doing so, be sure to let your profiles reflect the pride you feel!
Get Into Some Queer Virtual Spaces
Sign up for Clubhouse - the app is available on android and ios, and can immediately connect you with people from around the world to chat and engage. From chill social rooms, to big discussions on the topics that change the world, Clubhouse is full of Queer spaces to unwind and discuss the things that matter to us. Talk to LGBTQ+ people from around the world, share your story, and listen to theirs - whilst we can’t be together in person, we sure can be together virtually.
Join myGwork
If you aren’t already, become a member of myGwork, the LGBTQ+ business community. We’re the largest online LGBTQ+ network for professionals, providing a platform to connect, network, and access LGBTQ+ events, news, and more. Working with over 300 inclusive employers, we advertise over 72,000 jobs around the globe, as well as boasting mentoring schemes to provide you with mentors, mental health support, and country ambassadors to help you if you’re looking to advance your career, struggling, or relocating. Signing up couldn’t be easier - hop on in and start building your network!
Remember that Pride is for Everyone!
Pride is for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community - whether they’re out, or not. We’re a group that has come together against the injustices and abuse we have faced historically, and on the shoulders of those who came before us we have strived towards new levels of equality and acceptance never before seen. We must remember those in our community who haven’t been so fortunate though - both in countries where LGBTQ+ rights maybe aren’t as advanced and even in progressive societies where LGBTQphobia still exists. Look out for one another, support one another, and let’s build together towards a future where Pride never ends.
