Eight out of 10 LGBTQ+ Gen Zers unlikely to work for companies that withdraw support for the LGBTQ+ community, reveals research

Coinciding with Pride month, the latest research from myGwork highlights the critical importance of active corporate allyship, especially when it comes to recruiting and retaining employees. The research reveals that eight out of 10 Gen Zers are reluctant to join companies that have recently withdrawn support for the LGBTQ+ community. Moreover, very few Gen Zers believe that organizations are taking enough proactive action to be LGBTQ+ inclusive, with figures significantly lower for LGBTQ+ graduates and students (5%) compared to non-LGBTQ+ students (14%).

This underscores the importance for employers to carefully consider the consequences of retracting LGBTQ+ support. Employers must work harder to offer consistent, unwavering support for LGBTQ+ inclusion if they are serious about attracting a diverse workforce, noted the study. And it provides other key data and insights for organisations aiming to create fair and inclusive environments.  Click here to download the full report.

The fifth edition of WorkPride, organised by myGwork during Pride month, also provides support and guidance on how to address these issues and foster greater inclusivity. Taking place from 17-21 June 2024, WorkPride will once again unite thousands of virtual attendees worldwide, enabling them to exchange insights and strategies for inclusive workplaces that honour all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. The week-long event provides LGBTQ+ professionals, graduates, allies, and employers the opportunity to advance workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives through 60 panels and workshops delivered by over 250 experts.

Training and awareness initiatives are crucial for creating bias-free, inclusive workplaces. That is precisely why myGwork is proud to offer complimentary access to its allyship course from the myGwork Academy – providing practical and relevant training to help create inclusive environments for all – to the first 500 sign-ups for WorkPride 2024. Click here to register.

This year’s WorkPride will also commemorate myGwork’s 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, myGwork has been at the forefront of empowering and accelerating LGBTQ+ inclusion within workplaces, as outlined here. The upcoming five-day WorkPride conference not only celebrates this milestone but also serves as a pivotal moment for myGwork’s co-founders Adrien and Pierre Gaubert to unveil their vision for the next decade. They will reveal their new plan aimed at eradicating workplace discrimination and ensuring that everyone can work authentically and advance in their careers.

"As we celebrate a decade of myGwork, we are immensely proud of the strides we have made in advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion within workplaces globally. Our journey has been marked by profound moments of progress and meaningful collaborations thanks to our corporate and community partners, all of which have contributed to creating environments where authenticity is celebrated and diversity thrives. As we embark on the next chapter, our commitment to creating discrimination-free workplaces remains unwavering. Together, we will continue to champion inclusivity, empower allies, and pave the way for a future where everyone can work with pride, regardless of how they identify,” stated myGwork’s co-founders Adrien and Pierre Gaubert. “WorkPride 2024 promises to be a dynamic platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration. Join us as we celebrate a decade of myGwork's impact and collectively chart the course for the next era of LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace.”
